Shelter puppies!

Posted by [info]sadistic_crayon in [info]dog_lovers on 2010.01.05 at 20:45

These three are already adopted - pray for good weather Thursday! They have to get across the country on transport to their new homes!

This is Sedona - she is up for adoption. We think Newfie mix?

Winkle - up for adoption. Cute as a button.

Abel up for adoption - Tinsel makes puppies even cuter :)

Pups available from www.wynnefoa.com - transport across the US is available. We have litter after litter of pups in lately - most recently 8 German shepherd mixes only 5 weeks old. (daddy is full blooded, mother is a smaller shepherd mix. We have pics of both)

Just a little update...

Current Mood: relieved
Hi everyone!
I posted here Saturday and Monday about my miniature pinscher. We had to take her to the emergency vet on Sunday because she was vomiting blood. Apparently she has HGE.
I just wanted to update to say that I took her to our regular vet yesterday, and she's doing great! The vet was surprised to see her so alert and happy! She's not dehydrated and no longer has diarrhea. The vet said she was 99% better! You don't know how relieved I was to hear that!
Thanks to everyone for all the advice and kind words. :)

Update

Posted by [info]wetnosedkisses in [info]dog_lovers on 2010.01.05 at 21:54
Update about Monty from a few days ago when I was asking about hip dysplasia (http://community.livejournal.com/dog_lovers/2899613.html) - he's in perfect shape! We went to the vet today and the vet felt around his hips and said he was all muscle and everything seemed like it was in the right spot. Then Monty was brought back to get his xray (no sedation either! I'm surprised!) and he has no arthiritis and his hips are perfect! Yay! So it seems that he just strained/sprained something the other day, and we were given some medication that he can take as needed when he over does it.

Thanks you all for your information and help!

Seperation Anxiety

Posted by [info]starting_0ver in [info]dog_lovers on 2010.01.05 at 19:59
My puppy (just turned 1) has a severe seperation anxiety. I just started working today, for the first time since he was born. Hes home with my boyfriend AND roommate, but its me that he wants. He paces from the back door, to the bedrooms, back to door, etc. Panting and whining. He also gets destructive when Im gone, sometimes. Is there anything I can give him? Or do for him? I feel horrible leaving him.

*EDIT*: He is crate trained, but if hes locked up when someone is home, he SCREAMS. Hes not always destructive, just occasionally. He doesnt destroy anything while im home.

Izzy goes midieval on her rat-rat

Izzy is very prey driven, and finds rat-rat wrestling to be the best thing ever:)

Because of her animal aggression I did speak to our Vet to ask encouraging her to chase small fuzzy things was a good idea, but he gave us some good pointers about teaching her to "leave it" "drop it" and sit or stay in the middle of play to actually help her not chase things when we don't want her to.

I have a question.
My 3yr old pitbull Boomer seems to be having some bathroom issues, he is fully potty trained as in he wont go in the house unless and only he gets really happy..he tends to pee a little lol well lately hes been peeing alot and when I go to take him out he stops right infront of the door and pees on the carpet..why!

If anyone has had this issues or knows whats up let me know!

Thanks

I was just looking at my dog and under both of his front legs (like I guess what would be our armpits) he has like..yellowish crusty scab looking things on bright pink skin. Both about the size of a quarter.

Any ideas of what that could be? O.O

Dog aggression

Posted by [info]brokeyourplate in [info]dog_lovers on 2010.01.05 at 16:11
Current Mood: melancholy
Hello everyone,

I'm new to this community and I really don't know where else to go for advice...

I live with my parents and my brother. I have only just moved back to my parent's house, so I haven't been the primary care giver for our pets.

We have two dogs who are sister Kelpie X Collies, Angel and Charlie. They are nine years old. Both dogs were taken to puppy preschool when they were young to help them become socialised / disciplined. The dilemma is... Angel has always been the more dominant of the two from the time we got them. We figured this was just natural pecking order stuff and didn't really think too much about it. Over time though Angel has become more and more aggressive towards Charlie. She stares her down, growls and sometimes goes to bite her. Charlie is the total opposite and is submissive. Charlie will lie down and whimper.

I can see that over time, Charlie has become really afraid of Angel... and I don't understand what we can do to handle this aggressive streak in Angel. It's become so bad that now, when Charlie is eating, Angel will scare her away from her food. If Angel gets punished for this by having her food taken away, she will chase Charlie down and force her down on the ground. I realise that it is most likely something that we have done while bringing them up, but I'm at a total loss as to how this can be handled now. Has anyone here ever had to deal with aggressive behaviour between dogs?

I love, love, love my dogs, but something has to give. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thank you in advance. : )

I <3 my wheaten

I'm new to the group, so I decided to annoy all of you with some pics of my 11 year old wheaten, Tara. She is a certified therapy dog and visits 2 adult day cares and comes to work with me occasionally (I'm a nursing assistant). She enjoys "cleaning." I was making my bed today and she jumped in the middle of it wanting to play, making the task difficult. I put her toys in their basket and started to vacuum. By the time I got to the hallway where her basket is all her toys were on the floor again. *sigh* I'm hoping my lj cut works on this entry... the preview shows it without the cut.

This is my favorite pic of her that I took. The pug is named Hope.

Hey!

I'm a newbie dog owner (posted here once before about Invisible Fence issues), and I've had my beagle mix Romeo for six weeks now. For the most part he's adjusted very well to our home, and I'm doing my best to work on his minor issues. We haven't had obedience class for three weeks because of the holidays, though, and I think both of us are getting frustrated with some communications problems.

So, mouthing: Romeo is a mouthy dog. He chews everything. We've sprayed so much bitter apple around the house that we can barely eat our own food from cross contamination, and he keeps on destroying the coffee table. I do my best to redirect to appropriate objects, but last night while I was asleep he destroyed his dog bed, and he's ripped up my brother's schoolbooks too, when my brother forgets to put them away. He's just a mouthy dog, and I don't mind too much if I have to watch what he's chewing, but I do have a problem with him chewing on me, my mother, or my brother. He isn't aggressive - he's got no problems around food, for instance - but if he gets very excited to see someone, he'll put his mouth around their hands. Or if he's playing. Or... if he's bored. Or if you've petted him too long. Or too little.

I've tried the "turn away and ignore" tactic, and that works to some extent, but I got a little annoyed when he woke me up this morning by chewing on my nose.

Tips?

Two questions:

Posted by [info]ithinkheaven in [info]thedogcommunity on 2010.01.04 at 15:02
1) Is it generally better to feed your dog before or after a walk?

2) How much exercise should a 6-year-old female golden be getting a day? (in terms of minutes/hours, please)

Thank you!
